Marine life, wallets and garden updates

I woke up Friday morning and was out and about grabbing supplies for some bag orders and getting ready for Etsy Craft party 2014, when I suddenly realized.... "Its Friday!! I didn't even write a blog post!" Boy oh boy, I guess I was a bit preoccupied....Well, they say better late than never, so here it is folks. Enjoy my bullet points for the week.

Marine life:
For Christmas this part year, I gave The boyfriend Sea World passes for the two of us.  He LOVES Sea World and I haven't been since I was about 8 years old and went with my girl scout troupe.  With life being busy and the two of us on opposite schedules, finding a day where we are both off and have nothing else going, has been a challenge.  We decided we should probably go before school got out and it got really hot and busy.  This past Tuesday, we finally coordinated our schedules and headed off to San Diego.  We had  GREAT time! The weather was in the mid 70's and it wasn't very crowded at all.

We saw the Shamu show first. It was pretty neat! Especially watching all of the people in the splash zone freak out when the whales splashed and got them sopping wet!

We fed the seals, which was pretty hilarious! There was this one seal standing on a rock who would yell at the people he would see with fish in their hands until they tossed him one. I was cracking up! The Boyfriend and I found our favorite seal who was WAY less vocal but gave us the sweetest puppy dog eyes and would wave and do little tricks for us in exchange for fishes. This isn't a great picture of him but I was terrified I would drop my phone instead of the fish....haha.

The seal and otter show was really funny! It was my favorite show. They do like a variety, SNL type show with different "skits".  This shot was from the Dancing with the stars bit they did.

The Boyfriend decided to encourage my adventurous enterprises and took me to feed the bat rays.  I was SUPER nervous about this! First off, they are huge! You basically take the fish in your hand and place your hand in the water and they swim over your hand and suck the fish out like a little vacuum. Painless, but scary for the girl with close up animal issues. Haha! Well, The Boyfriend totally captured the moment, so enjoy these photos of me freaking out.....

We got to see pretty much everything there that we wanted to see. There were fish aquariums of all kind. Penguins, sea turtles, dolphins etc.

The other highlight for me was the Arctic area where we got to see the Beluga whales! They are so beautiful and amazing to me with their pure white coloring. I could have sat and watched them for hours! So cool!

The last thing we did before we left was have dinner.  While we were eating, a Momma duck with her babies came sauntering by, They were so super cute and we found ourselves, at Sea World, totally distracted laughing at adorable baby wild ducks! They were pretty funny and a great way to wrap up a nice day out.

Wallets:
About a week ago, my favorite $10 Wal Mart wallet (That I purchased, Oh, about 7 years ago)finally broke.  I decided that rather than buy a new one, I would make one! I found a pattern on Etsy and ordered it. I picked out some cute fabrics and got to work.

I thought about using an oilcloth fabric, but they just don't have as much a variety in that type of fabric as they do in cottons.  I had heard about fusible vinyl which you can iron right onto any fabric and it gives it a vinyl coating. Its then very easy to wipe clean when needed. Plus, then I could just have the inside pockets be plain cotton.  I have had those wallets where everything is made of a vinyl coated material and then its the biggest pain to get those credit cards out of the slots. (Although perhaps that's the point, hahaha)  None the less, I purchased some fusible vinyl and put a layer of that onto the outer lining pieces of the wallet.

I think it turned out pretty well for a first try. I'm super happy with the look of this wallet and its many pockets. I do think that I need to try once more though.  I feel like it could use some thicker interfacing to make everything a little more stable. In the meantime, I have a very cute and functioning wallet once again!

Garden updates:
Well, I have manager to keep my plants alive so far! I was very excited to discover the very first of the little strawberry buds has turned red! Yay!

My large tomato plant is getting lots of lovely yellow flowers, and my jalapeno plant has sprouted a few pretty white blooms! I never knew how pretty jalapeno blossoms were, by the way. I cannot wait for the first of my growing fruits and veggies to be ready to eat!

    1. Thanks Marcy! Well it does appear that some kind of moth or something (already checked for worms or bugs that loiter) is taking a few bites of my herbs.....somehow my favorite ones too! :( They are just a few nibbles but still I think I should get the first taste right?? ;)

    1. Thanks! I love it to, especially that its customizeable! :) I really do want to give it one more go and fix a few of my flaws in it, but I think it was a great pattern purchase.
