House Progress Update #1

We are beginning to make some progress on the house.  During our limited days off and putting in time before or after work, (daylight hours and schedules permitting) we are slowly, but surely getting things done!

The Laundry room:
The laundry room is pretty much the most "done" room in the house at this point.  Technically it started out that way though.  We started out by taking everything off the walls.

Then, I washed down all of the walls with  a TSP solution to clean off any old grunge.

Yes, walls apparently DO get very dirty over time....YUCK!

Once the walls dried, I taped off anything that didn't need painting with blue painter's tape. The Boyfriend then gave the entire room a good coat of Kilz primer. MUCH better! There it stands all ready to go while we decide on final paint colors.

The Kitchen:
The same basic steps were also done in the kitchen.  I cleaned out the oven. (Fun stuff) I continued my cleaning and got both the fridge and oven space cleaned.

The Boyfriend and I went fridge shopping and he purchased one that fit the space.  Its currently living in the master bedroom though so that we don't have to keep moving it to work around it.

I washed the kitchen walls as well and got them taped up.

My AMAZING best friend and her fantastic husband came over to help me put a dent in the priming for rooms that were ready.  They expertly did all of the "cutting in" for the kitchen and the bathrooms.

I followed behind and using a roller, filled in all the holes.  The kitchen and the bathroom are now primed!

Hardwood Floors:
The Boyfriend has been working INCREDIBLY hard stripping the floors with chemical stripper.

I tried helping some the other day. I was really only good at painting on the chemicals. I don't have enough upper strength to be bent over the floors AND dragging a scraper to pull off the finish. :(

He spent a few days stripping all the floors and a few more days sanding them.  It was ridiculously hard work! But look how fantastic they look post sanding!!

Helpful Family:
Speaking of great work, The Boyfriend's Dad has been stopping by almost daily after work and has been patching holes and spackling all over. SUPER helpful and awesome! Even the seemingly small tasks (patching, spackling etc) it has actually been quite the large project in this house and the help makes a world of difference!

We are so grateful that everyone is so willing to help! The Boyfriend's Mom has also been SUPER fantastic! She got little solar lights for the yard and has been so great at making sure we have what we need and adding home-ey touches. She is so appreciated!

New Fixtures:
The Boyfriend's electrician friend came to help with various electrical concerns.  If you'll remember, the living room had one medium sized fan in the center of the room.

We had that fan removed and actually moved this fan into the master bedroom.  The electrician then installed two new fans that we picked out.

Air circulation is SUPERB in here now!  We had these simple fixtures in the hallway.

We updated them to these more sleek, lights that we feel blend a little nicer and are just more modern.

This is a terrible picture, but we removed this ugly old brass porch light.

We replaced it with this updated fixture and has the electrician add a second porch light that matched above the garage at the other end of the porch. This not only helps light the front of the house, but will provide additional light outside the garage while working.

So, not a ton of visually completed projects done yet, but we are definitely working hard and making some awesome progress! Stay tuned for more!!
